La Roca Serena
Reimagining a historic boutique hotel in Mijas, Spain. Bridging Roman, Moorish, and Andalusian architecture with contemporary minimal luxury.
The Context & History
Located in Mijas, Spain, this project sits on land that has been shaped by many different civilizations over the centuries—including Roman builders, Andalusian craftsmen, and Moorish architects.
Rather than standard modern minimalism, the spatial designs honor this layering of history. We chose raw materials, limestone arches, and rich wood details to pay homage to the Andalusian vernacular.
Distinct Identities
This is a boutique hotel where the spatial design honors the local landscape. The exterior visualizations focus on the dramatic relationship between raw limestone walls, Andalusian arches, and the high-contrast Spanish sun.
In addition to the exterior study, I developed customized interior concepts for each of the boutique hotel's unique rooms. Explore these spaces on the dedicated interior page.
